The Acoma House
An art hotel on Acoma Street: 24 suites, each painted by a Denver artist
Denver, Denver
About this stay
The Acoma House sits at 1114 Acoma Street, on the Avenue of the Arts in the Golden Triangle, just south of Civic Center Park. The two-story building, a former boarding house more than a century old, is now an art hotel: each of its 24 suites carries a mural by a local artist and takes that artist's name, such as the Jason Graves Art Suite 101. The Babe Walls mural festival helped the owners find the artists.
Every suite has a full kitchen or a kitchenette, with air conditioning and free WiFi. The Denver Art Museum is about two blocks up the same street, the Clyfford Still Museum a few minutes further, and the Colorado Convention Center about 16 minutes on foot. Check-in runs from 4 p.m. and check-out is at 11 a.m. Parking is not included in the stay; there is a paid lot right next to the building.

Our take
The Acoma House is a century-old boarding house turned into 24 artist-painted suites, about two blocks from the Denver Art Museum on Acoma Street, rated 9.4 by guests over 593 reviews. I would book it for a museum-focused stay on foot, or for a convention when you would rather cook than eat out every night. I would not book it for nightlife: LoDo, Union Station and the bars of Larimer Square are a long walk or a ride north. It is an art hotel of apartments, not a full-service hotel, so anyone who wants a pool or a restaurant downstairs should look elsewhere.
- Arrive after 4 p.m.: check-in does not start earlier. Checkout is at 11 a.m., but the luggage lockers let you leave your bags and spend a last morning at the Denver Art Museum.
- Parking is not part of the stay; the paid lot next to the building is the practical option if you drive in from the mountains.
- From Denver International Airport, the RTD A Line runs to Union Station; from there the walk or a short ride south brings you to the Golden Triangle.
- Denver sits at 5,280 feet: drink more water than usual on the first day, especially before a long museum walk or a drive up to the mountains.
Why we love it
- A walk of two blocks to the Denver Art Museum
- Kitchenettes that make longer stays easier
- Suites painted by Denver artists, each under the artist's name
Why guests love itI would suggest The Acoma House to families who plan their Denver days around museums. The Denver Art Museum, History Colorado Center and the Central Library's Children's Library are all within a few blocks of 1114 Acoma Street, so the youngest can walk back for a rest between visits. The kitchen or kitchenette is the other argument: breakfast and an early dinner can be made in, which keeps meal times under control. Families who want a pool, a playground or evening entertainment on site will be disappointed. The basement laundry helps on longer stays, and the busiest restaurants are north, toward LoDo.
