Downtown Nashville Hotels: Where to Stay by Block
For a first trip to Nashville, stay downtown in SoBro, the blocks just south of Broadway: you walk to the honky-tonks, the Ryman, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Bridgestone Arena without moving a car. Downtown Nashville is small enough to cross on foot, yet its blocks behave very differently: Lower Broadway for live music from late morning to late night, SoBro for the Hall of Fame, the arena and the Music City Center, the Gulch for restaurants and new towers, and the Capitol side for the city's grand old hotel. Choose the block first, then the hotel.
SoBro is where I would put most first-timers. The Omni Nashville Hotel, at 250 Rep. John Lewis Way South, stands next to the Music City Center and the Country Music Hall of Fame, with a rooftop pool and a 9.2 score from 914 reviews. Two blocks down the same street, the Home2 Suites at number 500 has an outdoor pool, breakfast included, suites with kitchens and a 9.3 score. The catch is the convention calendar: when the Music City Center hosts a big show, both fill with delegates first, and Bridgestone Arena, a few minutes away on foot, adds its own concert crowds.
The Drury Plaza Hotel Nashville Downtown, on the corner of Korean Veterans Boulevard and Third Avenue South, is the most reviewed hotel on this page, with 2,583 reviews and a 9.3 score. It has an indoor and outdoor pool with a whirlpool, family rooms, and the 5:30 Kickback, an evening spread of hot food and drinks for guests that saves a family one dinner out. Closer to Broadway, the Hyatt Centric at 210 Molloy Street has a ninth-floor rooftop pool, which is seasonal, and a 9.1 score from 773 reviews.
The Printing House Hotel, a Tapestry Collection address at 501 Third Avenue South, opened in September 2025 with 187 rooms and a design that nods to the presses that printed Nashville's songbooks. It has only 117 reviews so far, scoring 9.0. Up the hill on Union Street, the Fairlane Hotel fills a 1973 bank tower with 81 rooms in seventies styling and scores 9.1 from 520 reviews. Neither lists a pool, which I would weigh in July and August, when Nashville is hot and humid. Printer's Alley, the old printing street now lined with bars, is a short walk from both.
The Hermitage Hotel is the landmark. It opened in 1910 on Sixth Avenue North, two blocks from the Tennessee State Capitol, joined the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and became a National Historic Landmark in 2020, for the part it played in the 1920 fight to ratify the 19th Amendment, which gave women the vote. With 9.6 from 181 reviews it has the highest score on the page. The Capitol side is the calmest part of downtown at night, and the walk back from Broadway is uphill. It also accepts pets, as five other central hotels on this page do.
The Gulch, just west of SoBro, feels more polished than Broadway: restaurants, bars and new towers. The Canopy by Hilton and the Homewood Suites share one building at 910 Division Street, 181 rooms on one side and 152 suites with kitchens on the other, scoring 9.1 and 9.0. From all three, the Ryman end of Lower Broadway is a real walk rather than a stroll.
Two listings need a word of caution. The HUGE downtown corner unit is a private two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment with a building pool and gym, scored 9.3 from 69 reviews: good for a group that wants a kitchen, but there is no front desk, so read the parking and check-in rules before booking. The three Opryland hotels, at 210 Rudy Circle, 2461 McGavock Pike and 2516 Music Valley Drive, suit an evening at the Grand Ole Opry or Opry Mills, not a weekend on Broadway, where every night out would start and end with a drive.
A traveler's perspectiveOn a first trip I would book in SoBro, at the Omni or the Drury Plaza, to walk to the Hall of Fame and Broadway and still have a pool to come back to. For a couple who care about sleep, I would choose The Hermitage on the Capitol side. A family with children gets the most from the Drury Plaza or the Home2 Suites, for the pool, the breakfast and the kitchens. I would avoid any room overlooking Lower Broadway unless the trip is about the bars, and I would not book Opryland for a downtown weekend: it is a separate area built around the Grand Ole Opry, and every evening on Broadway starts with a drive.
