Our take

West Beach Suites is a small all-suite property at 3127 SW Anchor Avenue, in the Nelscott stretch of Lincoln City, with one- and two-bedroom suites facing the Pacific and a kitchenette in each. Guests give it 9.0 out of 10 across 1,036 reviews, a high score for the Oregon coast. I would book it for a few slow days of beach walks with a dog and cooking in, especially in the shoulder seasons when the coast is quiet. I would not book it for swimming: the water here is cold all year, and the beach is a walking beach. It is a place to sleep by the sea, not a resort.

  • Lincoln City hides handmade glass floats on its seven miles of public beach every day of the year, from Roads End to Siletz Bay: look above the high-tide line and below the embankment, never in the beach grass.
  • Floats are placed in daylight only and at no set time, so a walk in the late afternoon can pay off as well as an early one; register a find on 541-996-1274 to receive its certificate.
  • Only dogs are accepted, two at most, and only in certain suites, so name your dog when you book rather than at the desk.
  • The public beach access at SW 35th Street is a few minutes' walk south, a second way down to the sand when the tide pushes walkers off the stretch below the hotel.

Why we love it

  • Private beach access directly from the property
  • Panoramic Pacific Ocean views from the rooms
  • Spacious suites with well-equipped kitchenettes
  • Pet-friendly policy for furry companions
Why guests love it

The suites are the reason to choose this place. With a kitchenette in each and one- or two-bedroom layouts, a family can cook breakfast, keep children's meals simple and give everyone a door to close, which a standard motel room on US-101 cannot. The ocean view does real work on a grey Oregon day. The sea itself is for walking, kite flying and float hunting rather than swimming: the Pacific stays cold here year round, and the coast's sneaker waves mean young children need a hand held at the waterline. Dogs are welcome in some suites, so it suits families who travel with one. Breakfast is a to-go option rather than a dining room, so plan dinners around the kitchenette or a short drive into town.
