Limelight Hotel Denver
Aspen Skiing Company's city hotel, one block from the Union Station platforms
Denver, Denver
About this stay
Continuum Partners, the Denver developer behind the blocks around Union Station, opened this building at 1600 Wewatta Street in 2017 as the Kimpton Hotel Born. In 2023 it sold an interest to Aspen Hospitality, the hotel arm of Aspen Skiing Company, which then converted the hotel to Limelight, a brand that traces back to the Limelite Lodge in Aspen. It keeps its 200 rooms and suites and about 14,000 square feet of meeting space, with Ajax Downtown as its restaurant and a fitness centre open around the clock, equipped with Peloton bikes. Union Station is about one block away, and dogs get their own bed and water bowl in the room.

Our take
Limelight Denver sits at 1600 Wewatta Street, about one block from Denver Union Station, where the A Line from the airport ends after roughly 37 minutes. It opened in 2017 as the Kimpton Hotel Born and is now run by Aspen Hospitality, the hotel arm of Aspen Skiing Company, as the first city address of its Limelight brand. Its 200 rooms and suites rate 9.1 out of 10 across 290 reviews. I would book it for a car-free Denver stay or a game night: Ball Arena is about seven minutes on foot. I would not book it as a ski base, because the nearest lifts are a drive or a train ride into the mountains.
- The A Line runs from Denver International Airport to Union Station in about 37 minutes, so the city part of a Colorado trip needs no rental car: pick one up only when you head for the mountains.
- Amtrak has announced that the Winter Park Express ski train returns for 2026-27 from Union Station but has not yet published the dates; last season it left at 7 a.m. from Thursday to Sunday, so check amtrak.com before fixing your nights.
- The hotel gives its own walking times: about 7 minutes to Ball Arena, home of the Nuggets and the Avalanche, and about 14 minutes to Coors Field for a Rockies game.
- Travelling with a dog, you will find a bed and a water bowl in the room, a habit the brand traces back to the original Limelite Lodge in Aspen.
Why we love it
- About one block from the Union Station platforms and the airport train
- Ajax Downtown, the hotel restaurant
- Dogs welcomed with their own bed and water bowl
Why guests love itFor a family, Limelight Denver works best as the city stop of a Colorado trip rather than as a resort. Arriving by plane, you can ride the A Line to Union Station and walk about one block to the hotel with your bags, without a car. Ball Arena is about seven minutes on foot for a Nuggets or Avalanche game, and Coors Field about fourteen. Dogs get their own bed and bowl, which helps families who travel with a pet between the city and the mountains. Meals are at Ajax Downtown, the hotel restaurant, and the fitness centre is open around the clock. For skiing, the lifts are a drive or a train ride away: Winter Park is the resort the Amtrak ski train serves from Union Station.
